Hawkins Residence
Houston, Texas
A curved house with a view of the Meramec River Valley for a bachelor computer specialist sits in a field of Missouri wildflowers partially buried within a steeply sloping site. A structural steel link directed toward the view connects the garage, house and pool by piercing through each element at three different levels. A massive load bearing stone wall, which sits protectively in the landscape to the northeast, supports the house’s steel frame and its open web steel roof structure. Wide overhangs provide solar shading for upper levels. Large operable windows and doors cross ventilate interior spaces. Guest bathrooms are hidden in stone buttresses at the lower level. |
